Troops Apprehend 34 Suspects for Murder, Cattle Rustling, Kidnapping, Others

Operation Safe Haven Troops, conducting Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, have apprehended a total of 34 individuals suspected of engaging in a range of criminal activities.

These activities include murder, kidnapping, illegal arms trading, destruction of farms, cattle rustling, theft, and the possession of illegal drugs.

These arrests occurred between October 22 and 29, 2023, spanning across the states of Kaduna, Plateau, and Bauchi.

Troops Apprehend 34 Suspects for Murder

Among the detainees, two individuals identified as Tanko Abubakar and Umar Mohammed were taken into custody due to their alleged involvement in the murder of Mrs. Ruth in the Mai Jankai village, located in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday via the Nigerian Army’s X account.

The statement partly read, “Within the week, a total of 34 suspects were arrested, out of which were 7 suspected kidnappers, 4 suspected gunrunners, 3 in connection with attacks on villages, 3 cattle rustlers, and 2 suspects arrested for illicit drugs peddling.

“Also, 3 victims were rescued from kidnappers, 4 attacks on vulnerable communities were deterred and 36 distress calls were promptly responded to.”

The head of Operation SAFE HAVEN Troops, Major General AE Abubakar, conveyed his appreciation for the collaboration and support from the communities in Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Bauchi States in the ongoing mission to rid the region of criminal elements.

Furthermore, he pledged that all individuals currently held in custody will face legal proceedings as per the law once the investigations have been completed.
