The lawmaker representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called for accountability over the alleged withdrawal of Nigerian troops in Kebbi State, which reportedly allowed the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls.
Speaking on ‘Prime Time,’ a programme on Arise Television, on Monday, Abaribe said those responsible for the troop withdrawal must be identified and held accountable.
According to reports, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris claimed that soldiers assigned to protect the school were withdrawn around 3:00 a.m., and the attackers struck less than 45 minutes later.

Reacting to the development, Abaribe said, “Why do we have to argue on this? There’s a commander there. There is a hierarchy, and whoever gave the order to withdraw troops in Kebbi needs to be fished out.
“The lack of action by the government and military authorities gives the impression to the public that there is collusion somewhere. And if there is collusion, who is safe?
“This means that even if there are troops around me, I’m not safe. You are no longer sure that the troops around you can protect you, or whether they could hand you over to the bandits and you become a victim.
“That is just the point. There comes a time in the country’s life when we must end all these.”
