Donald Trump has been reinstated on the presidential ballot in Colorado following an appeal that suspended a ruling that had removed him under the ‘insurrection’ clause of the US Constitution.
The Colorado Republican Party submitted a request on Wednesday for the US Supreme Court to review the lower court’s decision that disqualified Trump from appearing on the state’s presidential ballot due to his involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6.

Jena Griswold, the Secretary of State for Colorado, announced that Trump will remain on the ballot for the time being, which is set to be printed on January 5. This is subject to change if the Supreme Court either upholds the lower court’s ruling or decides not to hear the appeal.
Earlier this month, a 4-3 ruling determined that Trump would not be listed on the state’s primary ballot, in accordance with a clause in the 14th Amendment, which is 155 years old and prohibits those who ‘engaged in insurrection’ from holding office.
Even though Colorado’s 10 Electoral College votes are unlikely to be won by the Republican candidate in the general election and the state is not a key player in the Grand Old Party (GOP) primary, the ruling could establish a precedent for numerous other states considering removing Trump from the ballot.
