President-elect of the United States Donald Trump has called for Canada to merge with the United States following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation on Monday.
Trudeau, who served nearly nine years as prime minister, announced his decision to step down, citing internal party tensions and declining popularity as reasons for his departure.
He stated that he would remain in office until the Liberal Party selects a new leader, and announced that the Canadian Parliament would be suspended until March 24.
“This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,” Trudeau said during a press conference.

Reacting to the development, Trump took to social media to advocate for a merger between the two nations.
He argued that such a union would eliminate tariffs, lower taxes, and bolster security against threats from Russian and Chinese forces.
“Together, what a great nation it would be,” Trump wrote.
