Two Killed, Others Wounded in Benue Communal Clash

Two individuals were reportedly killed, and two others sustained gunshot wounds during a communal clash that erupted in the Ajetachi community within the North Bank area, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began late on Sunday and continued until Easter Monday, resulting in the burning of several residences.

Nura Umah, an eyewitness, informed journalists that the conflict involved youths from the Jukun and Tiv ethnic groups and primarily occurred in the vicinity of Ajetachi near the old bridge at North Bank.

He said, “The crisis started late hours of Sunday between Jukun and Tiv youths, several houses were burnt at Ajetachi, near the old bridge at North Bank.

“Two people were killed during the crisis, one of them (deceased ) was an okada rider, and another man who was hawking leather.

“They have buried the two people today (Monday), yesterday when the Jukuns were in the church, the Tiv people attacked them in the church and shot two people who are presently receiving treatment in the hospital.”

Efforts to get the response of the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, were not successful as his phone rang out.
