Gunmen have abducted the two wives of the chairman of Kiyawa Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Honorable Nasiru Ahmed Kiyawa, after invading his residence on Friday night.
The chairman confirmed the incident to BBC Hausa, saying that the assailants fired shots at his door and chased away people outside before entering his house.
“They took my two wives; they are still holding them hostage,” he said.
The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Lawan Adam Shiisu, also confirmed the incident to newsmen, noting that they received a distress call and dispatched officers to the scene.
However, the gunmen had already fled with the victims before the arrival of the police.

Shiisu said that the police have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could lead to their arrest and rescue of the women.
The motive behind the kidnapping is still unknown, but the state has witnessed a surge in cases of banditry and kidnapping in recent times.
In February, gunmen abducted 18 passengers of a commercial bus along Birnin Kudu-Kiyawa Road in the state.
The passengers were later released after negotiations with the kidnappers.
