UN General Assemby Convenes Emergency Meeting Amid Israel-Palestine War

The ongoing intractable Israel-Palestine conflict has prompted the UN General Assembly to call an emergency extraordinary session on Thursday, October 26, 2023. The Security Council’s ongoing impasse and the deteriorating situation in Gaza’s besieged territory were the backdrops for the meeting.

Dennis Francis, the President of the General Assembly, declared the meeting to be adjourned at 1:03 PM, with a meeting to be held again at 10 AM on Friday. There were still a few important nations with a stake in the area that had not yet claimed the famous Assembly Hall platform.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s minister of foreign affairs, denounced the “war crime and genocide of the occupying Israeli regime in Gaza and the West Bank of Palestine” during the meeting. He criticized the US and numerous European nations for supporting Israel and branding the Palestinian liberation movement “terrorists” in their support of Israel.

Amir-Abdollahian urged the United States to pursue security and peace as opposed to waging war on civilians, women, and children. He also disclosed that Hamas is prepared to free civilian detainees in accordance with Iranian agreements.

Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ayman Safadi, called on attendees to support the UN Charter, human values, and peace on behalf of the Arab Group. He denounced war crimes and underlined that there are no gray zones.

All eyes are focused on how this emergency meeting will affect the Israel-Palestine conflict as emotions around the world increase over it.
