UNICAL Receives Panel Report on Suspended Dean

The management of the University of Calabar has received the report of the investigation panel constituted to probe allegations of improprieties leveled against the suspended Dean of the College of Law, Prof. Cyril Ndifon.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, while receiving the report of the panel in a brief ceremony in her office, thanked members of the panel for their relentless efforts and commitment towards the attainment of a thorough and objective report within a short time frame.

Despite the fact that management has not read the report, she stated she is confident it would be helpful to the university in bringing the issue to a close and allowing it to proceed.
Prof. Obi expressed her satisfaction with the Panel’s sacrifice and dedication, and she promised that the report, which the Panel described as “nothing added, nothing removed,” would be given to the Executive Secretary of the NUC, the Ministers of Women’s Affairs and Education.

The Vice Chancellor stated that the Panel’s report would act as the university’s spokesperson to the public in response to the range of conflicting remarks that have followed the coverage of the topic.

Regarding the panelists’ qualifications, the university helmsman said that they were carefully chosen based on their positions, offices, and reputations. He described the panelists as capable, honest people. she said, “I wanted someone who could not be influenced, and on behalf of the University

Management, I want to thank the chairman for accepting to head this panel. I want to also

thank every member of the panel. To take the university higher, we need men and women who are credible,” she added.

Prof. Dorothy Oluwagbemi Jacob, the panel’s chairman, presented the report and stated that the group was given a task to gather information and came together to submit their findings.

She said, “We went out of our way to investigate the issues point by point. We did not rely on hearsay. We did the work objectively. We allowed all stakeholders to speak their minds. Every finding has evidence and verification. The result was not made up or cooked. Every fact here can be verified”.

She took the opportunity to thank the panel members for their cooperation, dedication, and time in carrying out their mandate. She also said that if anyone finds the report to be attractive, it is due to the professional teamwork of all those involved.
