The University of Nigeria Nsukka administration has taken swift action in response to recent allegations against Mr. Mfonobong David Udoudom, a lecturer within the School of General Studies, suspending him following a video that purportedly shows him harassing a female student.
Reports from Parallel Facts, initially surfaced, alleging that Udoudom was found in a compromising situation in his office with a married student, with his pants down.
Subsequently, it was disclosed that Udoudom was apprehended by law enforcement on Monday and has remained in custody since then.
A video depicting the lecturer clad in only boxers has circulated widely on social media, although the exact date of the incident could not be independently verified by SaharaReporters.
In response to the unfolding situation, the university released an official statement on Tuesday through its Acting Public Relations officer, Chief Okwun Omeaku, clarifying that Udoudom does not hold the title of professor.
The university further announced Udoudom’s indefinite suspension pending the conclusion of an investigation by a disciplinary panel assembled by the institution to delve into the matter.
The statement partly reads: “The indefinite suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary panel constituted by the University to investigate the incident.
“For the records, the University of Nigeria has a zero tolerance for sexual misconduct involving our staff and students. UNN is among the few universities in the country that has a Sexual Harassment Policy, which guides the relationship between our staff and students in particular and among our male and female staff.
“As a university, we are committed to protecting our students from any form of abuse and exploitation, and the University Management will not hesitate to punish Mr Mfonobong David Udoudom, according to our rules, if he is found guilty by our disciplinary panel.”
