Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Checkpoint, Set Patrol Van Ablaze, Kills officer

On Thursday, unidentified gunmen assaulted a police checkpoint situated along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway, setting a police patrol van on fire.

The attack occurred at the Ishieke Junction, located on the outskirts of the Abakaliki metropolis.

Sources within the vicinity reported that the gunmen fatally shot one police officer and kidnapped another during the assault. However, the accuracy of these details remained unverified at the time of the initial report.

DSP Joshua Ukandu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, although he acknowledged that the precise circumstances surrounding the attack were still unclear.

He said, “An incident happened this morning, but I am still trying to get the details.

“At this point, I can’t confirm much. Let me get my facts right.

“I just got information that there was an attack at that checkpoint, but I don’t have any other information.”
