A 48-year-old man from the United States (US), Travis John Branson, has admitted to the charges of participating in the unlawful hunting and trafficking of bald and golden eagles, protected species under federal law.
Over the span of several years, Branson engaged in the shooting of these birds and subsequently sold their various parts and feathers through underground channels.
His involvement extended to boasting about his illegal activities in text messages to potential buyers, where he proudly claimed to be “committing felonies” and engaging in a “killing spree.”
Branson now faces the consequences of his actions, with a potential prison sentence of up to five years awaiting him following his sentencing on July 31st in federal court.

In addition to imprisonment, he may also be subject to fines totaling approximately $250,000 (£195,000).
His guilty plea encompasses charges of conspiracy, illegal trafficking of protected eagle species, and violations of laws prohibiting the interstate trafficking of unlawfully possessed wildlife.
The illegal hunting excursions took place between 2015 and 2021, during which Branson would journey from his residence in Washington state to western Montana to carry out his illicit activities.
