United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has raised alarm over the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, saying they are being killed five times more than members of other religions warning that the United States will not turn a blind eye to the ongoing attacks.
In a post on his verified X account, Moore shared a video of his interview on Fox News Sunday, in which he thanked President Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and explained that the designation unlocks 15 tools the President can use, including sanctions, withholding development aid, and restricting financing from international institutions.

He disclosed that a congressional investigation into the crisis has already begun, with the House Appropriations Committee working alongside the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the State Department, the National Security Council, and White House staff to compile findings for the President.
Moore described the killings as horrific, saying, “These killings of Christians, our brothers and sisters in Christ are horrific, and as President Trump has stated, we’re going to stop this.”
He rejected claims by Nigeria Bola Tinubu that the country is religiously tolerant, citing cases of Nigerians currently facing the death penalty for alleged blasphemy and individuals like Mr Sunday Jackson who was sentenced to death after defending themselves from attacks by armed Fulani Herdsmen.
“There is serious persecution happening in Nigeria,” he said, accusing the government of downplaying the crisis and being complicit to some degree.
While acknowledging that some Muslims have also been attacked by extremists, Moore maintained that Christians bear the largest toll.
“The deaths we’ve been able to gather from the facts on the ground is five to one ,Christians versus others,” he said, noting that Islamic extremist groups also target Muslims.
When asked if the US has a role in what Nigeria considers an internal matter, Moore insisted America cannot ignore the crisis.
“We’re a Christian nation and a nation that believes in standing up for people who are being persecuted,” he said, emphasizing that all options are on the table, including potential military action.
The investigation is ongoing as Congress prepares recommendations for President Trump on a possible intervention plan in Nigeria.
