USAID: Nigeria May be Poor But Won’t Beg Anyone – Health Minister

Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has affirmed that the country is capable of providing healthcare for its citizens, even in the absence of support from the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

This statement follows the exit of USAID, amid controversy surrounding the agency.

According to a report by DAILY POST, tech billionaire Elon Musk, who leads President Donald Trump’s newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has taken steps to seize control of USAID. Musk labeled the agency as corrupt, referring to it as a “criminal organization” and a “viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America.”

Earlier in the week, U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, representing Pennsylvania, accused USAID of funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram.

During the inaugural hearing of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, Perry alleged that the agency had allocated $136 million to construct 120 schools in Pakistan.

In an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Minister Pate stated that Nigeria must adapt to its circumstances, emphasizing that the country would not resort to begging for assistance.

“We may be a poor country, but we are a capable country, and we are determined to own up to that responsibility.

“If others step in and support us, we appreciate it, but we are not begging for it, and we also will live within what we have,” he said.
