Senate President Godswill Akpabio has come under fierce criticism from Nigerians for his recent call urging citizens to pray for Bola Tinubu.
The backlash was swift, with many accusing Akpabio of being out of touch with the pressing issues facing the nation.
Akpabio made the controversial statement during the flag-off of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja. Senator Akpabio said with the support and prayers of the citizens, Tinubu’s government will succeed.
“I have no doubt that by the time the president is through with his tenure in the country, seven years from today, many people will not recognise FCT, they will not recognise Nigeria again,” Akpabio said on Tuesday.
“So, all I can say is: let us continue to pray for him and be hopeful that the challenges you see today, tomorrow, you will see them no more.”
However, the response from the public was overwhelmingly negative. Many Nigerians took to social media to express their frustration and disappointment with the Senate President.
“Honestly, this is nothing other than “see finish” syndrome. Kindly send prayer points so as to enable us to begin marathon fasting and prayer immediately. Useless Senate President!, ” tweeted @Olusegu60442187

Another user, @UgoBe3 wrote, “While he lavished Nigeria’s future with his family and friends, weldone Akpabio.”
@SDGaza tweeted, “It is always the biggest thieves that use the “pray for Nigeria” line. I doubt if these people even believe in God, they just use religious affiliations to deceive the masses. “
@AmanamAnie said, “Something dey worry this Akpabio oooo…I no come understand this my brother again.”
