Vandals Destroy Transmission Line in Bauchi with Explosives

In an act of vandalism, an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) ripped through a high-tension electric transmission pole near the Federal Polytechnic in Bauchi. Although no human casualties were reported, the destructive blast left a trail of damage, with a significant section of the transmission line destroyed.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the incident occurred on Thursday night in the Unguwan Kanawa area. Describing the scene, Wakil stated, “Upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives… was drafted and deployed to the scene immediately.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the perpetrators used explosives to target the high-tension pole, causing it to collapse and sustain severe damage. “Some remnant components of Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered from the scene,” Wakil confirmed.

Expressing condemnation for the attack, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, vowed to apprehend the culprits. “The Commissioner of Police… has vowed to sniff out all criminal merchants desperate to make a living on government/private property,” Wakil reiterated.

Residents have been urged to remain calm as authorities work to ensure public safety. Commissioner Muhammad called for cooperation from the public, emphasizing the importance of community support in securing lives and property. “Hence, the CP sought continued collaboration and support from the members of the public to secure the lives and property of the people,” Wakil emphasized.
