Tinubu Plunged into Darkness as Vandals Steal Cables Supplying Electricity to Presidential Villa

The Presidential Villa in Abuja has been left without electricity following the theft of critical power cables, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The incident highlights the growing problem of cable vandalism, which is disrupting power supply across central parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a joint statement, TCN and the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed that a 132kV transmission line and underground cables that power central Abuja and the Presidential Villa were targeted by vandals.

The damaged cables transport bulk electricity to TCN’s 132kV Central Area transmission substation, which distributes power through eight feeders to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. Key areas affected by the outage include Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa.

Ndidi Mba, General Manager of TCN, revealed that the theft occurred near Millennium Park, a short distance from the Presidential Villa.

The vandals reportedly stole 40 meters of 1x500mm² XLPE conductors from two 132kV transmission lines. TCN engineers have since been deployed to the site to repair the damage and restore power to the affected areas.
