Maiduguri Flood: Kashim Shettima Promises Victims 50 Trucks of Rice

Kashim Shettima visited Maiduguri on Tuesday to offer his sympathy to the people of Borno following the Alau Dam flood disaster, which displaced thousands of residents.

Shettima, who led a federal government delegation to the flood-stricken city, was welcomed by Governor Babagana Zulum.

The governor accompanied him to the palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, which had also been affected by the floods.

After visiting the palace, Shettima proceeded to the Bakassi camp, where thousands of flood-displaced residents were seeking shelter.

Shettima reassured the distressed victims that the government would provide 50 trucks of rice for their support.

He further stated that the government would work with the North-East Development Commission and other agencies to ensure that the displaced persons would not have to stay in the camp for more than two weeks.

On Tuesday, Maiduguri residents woke up to devastating floods that submerged numerous buildings and flooded roads and bridges.
