Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive facing money laundering charges, has accused the Nigerian government of mistreating him.
In a viral video posted on Monday by SYMFONI, Gambaryan, seen using crutches, expressed distress, claiming that staff of the Nigeria Correctional Service have neglected him under government orders.
“This is Fuck Up, he was told not to help me. This is an instruction from the government. It is a show, I am an innocent person”, he said.
This development follows the arraignment of the embattled Binance executive at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
On August 28, 2024, Mark Mordi, SAN, submitted a bail application for Gambaryan.
However, the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ekene Iheanacho, opposed the application, arguing that Gambaryan does not have a serious health issue.
“My Lord, I don’t want to go into detail about this issue. Ordinarily, the defendant had been living with this (disk) condition for the past 12 years before he came to Nigeria. It is not as if it is a new issue”, he said.
In an earlier statement to DAILY POST, Yuki Gambaryan, the wife of Tigran Gambaryan, condemned the situation as “entirely unjust,” asserting that her husband was unlawfully detained by the Nigerian government after being lured to the country under false pretenses for a meeting.
It should be noted that in April, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered that Gambaryan remain in Kuje prison while his bail application is under consideration.
Back in February, two executives from the company, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla (who is currently at large), were arrested and detained by the Nigerian government on charges related to money laundering and terrorism.
