Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe secured spots in the men’s 100m semi-finals at the 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday, marking their Olympic debuts.
Ajayi triumphed in Heat 5 with a time of 10.02 seconds, surpassing Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who finished second at 10.05 seconds.
Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu placed third with 10.06 seconds.
In Heat 4, Ashe finished fourth, trailing Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon.

Despite this, Ashe advanced to the semi-finals by securing the last non-automatic qualifying spot.
In swimming, Adaku Nwandu placed second in Heat 6 of the women’s 50m freestyle, behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh. The 16-year-old, however, did not advance to the final.
