Video: Police Reportedly Open Fire to Disperse Protesters in Bende, Abia State Following Alleged Killing of Mr. Okorie Wisdom by a Police Officer

Tension erupted in Bende, Abia State, as police officers reportedly opened fire to disperse protesters demanding justice for the alleged killing of a resident, Mr. Okorie Wisdom.

Hundreds of aggrieved residents took to the streets on Saturday, October 25, 2025, converging on the local police station to protest what they described as the extrajudicial killing of Wisdom by a Nigerian police officer.

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was allegedly beaten to death by an officer on Wednesday evening, despite not committing any offence.

 The incident has since sparked outrage, with protesters demanding accountability and justice for Wisdom’s family.

A new video posted on X by @ChuksEricE shows scenes of heavy shooting in Bende as police reportedly fired live rounds and what appeared to be tear gas to scatter the demonstrators.

 The short clip captures the chaotic atmosphere, with sounds of gunfire echoing as protesters ran for safety.

Armed police and military personnel were said to have surrounded the station to prevent angry residents from setting it ablaze.

As of press time, the Abia State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. 

However, the People of Abia, a community-based organisation, condemned the act and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officer involved.

This incident adds to the growing list of police brutality cases across Nigeria, reigniting calls for urgent reform and accountability within the nation’s security agencies.
