Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has declared that voting alone will not be enough to remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 elections, warning that those relying solely on ballots are preparing to repeat the same mistake made in 2023.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Hundeyin expressed frustration over what he described as Nigeria’s broken electoral process and the ruling party’s disregard for democratic outcomes.
“Whether the vehicle you people eventually agree on is Peter Obi or Atiku or coalition or whatever, you must prepare to carry out strategic violence. Because casting votes alone will not remove Jabba The Hutt from that office. Voting is only 35% of the job, and the ruling puppets have NO INTENTION of respecting your ‘votes.’ I can tell you that for free,” he wrote.
He alleged that the 2023 general elections were won by the opposition but lost in execution due to a lack of coordinated resistance to what he described as a “fraudulent” process.
“Whatever melodrama they are staging is for the sole purpose of sucking you into doing a live-action repeat of 2023, when you won the election and lost the objective of the election, to remove cancer called APC from Aso Rock,” he said, claiming that the ruling party last won a legitimate election in 2015.
Hundeyin, a fierce critic of the Tinubu administration, urged citizens to move away from mere online activism and instead adopt strategic offline coordination. Drawing comparisons to Ghana’s most recent presidential election, he praised Ghanaians for enforcing their electoral will at polling stations and collation centers.
“These Ghanaians that you see smiling and bantering with you on the TL… had created offline networks and closed groups to carry out strategic enforcement of their electoral will on election night,” he said. “They were prepared for everything, fake ballot papers… incumbent party agents trying to bully collation center operatives… all of these things were shut down with real physical violence where necessary.”
His comments come amid rising public disillusionment over the state of Nigeria’s electoral credibility and the perceived impunity of the current regime. The 2023 elections, which saw Peter Obi of the Labour Party gain widespread youth support, were marred by irregularities, voter suppression, and delayed results. Yet, Tinubu was declared the winner.

Hundeyin warned that if opposition supporters repeat the same approach in 2027 without a serious rethink, history will repeat itself.
“Nobody in Nigeria gave them [the uniformed men] that decision to make in 2023, and that’s why Jabba The Hutt is your president,” he said, again referring to Tinubu using the nickname he often employs to deride the president.
While his comments have sparked mixed reactions online, they have also reignited discussions around electoral preparedness, security at collation centers, and the larger question of whether meaningful change can occur under current conditions.
The post has further cemented Hundeyin’s role as a vocal figure challenging the status quo and urging young Nigerians to avoid a repeat of what he called “a digital circus that delivered no results.”
