In a strikingly direct series of posts on Truth Social Tuesday, President Donald Trump intensified hostilities with Iran, calling for its “unconditional surrender” and declaring that the United States has “complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”
“We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran,” Trump wrote, boasting of American-made defense systems. “Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it, but it doesn’t compare to American made, conceived, and manufactured ‘stuff.’ Nobody does it better than the good ol’ USA.”
Trump’s latest post appeared to blur the lines between American and Israeli military achievements. A day earlier, the Israeli military had announced that its airstrikes had successfully disabled Iran’s air defense systems, allowing for direct bombing runs over Tehran without relying on long-range missiles. In a follow-up message on Truth Social, Trump took direct aim at Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei:
“We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He’s an easy target—but safe for now. We’re not going to take him out (kill!), at least not yet. But we won’t tolerate missiles aimed at civilians or American troops. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
While three U.S. officials told CBS News that Trump had rejected proposals to assassinate Khamenei, Israeli media reports suggest deeper coordination between Trump’s team and Israel’s military campaign, hinting at secret backchannel cooperation.
Trump’s forceful rhetoric stands in contrast to assessments from U.S. intelligence agencies, which maintain that Iran is not currently racing toward nuclear weaponisation—a detail notably absent from his calls for total control of Iranian airspace.
