The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has alleged that it paid N64 million to the Nigeria Police to secure the release of its members, who were arrested ahead of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
Speaking at a press conference in Benin City on Monday, the state chairman of the PDP, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, accused the police of unjustly detaining party members on what he described as false allegations of involvement in the death of Inspector Akor.
Aziegbemi stated, “You will recall that the police were arresting our members on the false allegation of killing Inspector Akor.
“The police have shamelessly released our members after collecting about N64 million ostensibly for bail.
“Amazingly, more arrests have been made after the election. How low can the police go under this patently biased IGP heading the armed wing of the APC.”
In addition, the PDP chairman alleged that the party’s intelligence unit had uncovered plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to burn the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, urging security agencies to take action.
