Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has revealed that the state government allocates a minimum of N150 million monthly to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
This announcement was made during the inauguration of the 2024 desilt exercise of major storm drains in Gombe metropolis on Wednesday.
Governor Yahaya, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized the importance of collective efforts by residents to keep the environment clean.
He urged the community to make use of newly constructed waste collection centers to manage waste effectively.
Highlighting the environmental challenges posed by indiscriminate waste disposal in drains, Governor Yahaya noted that such practices contribute to flooding.
To address this, the state has commenced the clearing of major water channels to ensure free water flow, prevent flooding, and protect human lives, property, and infrastructure.
In line with his administration’s commitment to environmental conservation, Governor Yahaya announced plans to construct 21 additional waste collection centers under the ACReSAL project in partnership with the World Bank.
The State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) will oversee daily waste evacuation from these centers to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
