What Happened to Your Humanity? — Suleman Slams Leaders Over Benue Bloodshed, Urges Benue Residents to Defend Themselves

Amid growing outrage over the slaughter of over 200 people in Benue State, fiery Nigerian cleric Apostle Johnson Suleman has issued a bold call to residents of the state: defend yourselves.

In the post on his official X handle on Sunday, Suleman blasted the federal government’s failure to protect citizens, describing the killings as “evil, barbaric, and a mayhem.”

“If the federal govt knows it’s overwhelmed or its security architecture has failed, they should be humble enough to tell the citizens,” he said, adding, “Self-defense is enshrined in the Constitution. I said it when I went to Jos and Benue. We can’t watch this continue.”

The apostle’s comments come just days after heavily armed herders carried out coordinated attacks on Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue, killing scores, including children, women, displaced persons, and security officers.

While the nation continues to mourn, Suleman questioned the silence of those in power, particularly those already focused on political ambitions ahead of 2027.

“It’s ridiculous that people are thinking of 2027 whilst mayhem is being unleashed in 2025 on citizens they are supposed to govern… what happened to your humanity?”

The post, widely shared online, has further amplified citizen anger over what many see as the government’s gross negligence and lack of urgency in responding to the massacre.

“There was a country,” Suleman concluded, echoing the somber mood of a grieving and frustrated nation.
