Renowned human rights lawyer Chidi Odinkalu has questioned former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over the disappearance of Dadi-Yata, a vocal critic who went missing nearly six years ago, and the murder of Maiwada Galadima, the Agwam Adara, a traditional ruler who was abducted and later found dead after meeting with the ex-governor.
Speaking on Channels TV, Odinkalu raised fresh concerns over disturbing social media posts by El-Rufai’s children, which he suggested implied knowledge of Dadi-Yata’s fate.
Yata, a well-known critic of El-Rufai’s administration, disappeared at the peak of his opposition to the former governor’s policies.
“What kind of person who suckled on motherly lactation says that? Who has been brought up properly and whose father and mother are still alive, and the parents say nothing?” Odinkalu questioned, condemning the family’s silence over the missing critic.
The lawyer also highlighted the chilling case of the Agwam Adara, who was abducted alongside his wife shortly after attending a meeting with El-Rufai in October 2018.

While his wife was later freed following a ransom payment, the monarch was found dead—a tragedy Odinkalu described as part of a disturbing pattern of suppression in Kaduna State.
“Does that happen besides DadiYata? Yes, Agwam Adara. He went to see the governor. He never returned alive,” Odinkalu said, urging the people of Kajuru to confirm the widely known events.
The Adara community has long viewed the monarch’s death, alongside the controversial scrapping of their chiefdom under El-Rufai’s government, as a deliberate attempt to erase their identity.
Odinkalu’s remarks have reignited concerns over the climate of fear, insecurity, and alleged persecution that marked El-Rufai’s tenure.
The fate of Dadi-Yata remains unknown, and no official investigation has been conducted into the murder of the Agwam Adara.
As outrage builds, Odinkalu’s demand for answers renews calls for justice in a state still grappling with its troubled past.
