Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has criticized Katsina State government officials for allegedly diverting bags of rice intended for the poor.
On Wednesday night, operatives from the Katsina State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) recovered 2,000 bags of rice out of 20 trucks donated to the state by the federal government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the recovered rice had been allegedly diverted by some government officials. DSS officials confirmed the incident but chose to remain anonymous and did not provide further comments.
Reacting to the development, Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, condemned the actions of the government officials.
In a post on X, he warned that the government should not complain about unrest if people protest against such actions.
Sani stated, “Katsina Government officials, why did you divert bags of rice meant for the poor? If the people now protest, you will say they are causing trouble.”
