New insights into the unfortunate demise of Herbert Wigwe, Access Holdings Plc Co-founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, have surfaced; with new information on how his aide narrowly escaped the tragic end.
According to a report by ThisDay, Wigwe’s special assistant, Faleye Olushola, escaped death on Friday night in the ill-fated helicopter crash that claimed the lives of his boss, wife and son.
Olushola, whose name was on the manifest, chose not to board the helicopter headed to Boulder City in Nevada upon reaching Palm Spring. Citing concerns about nighttime weather conditions, he opted for a safer journey by road.
Olushola flew with Wigwe, his wife, son and former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo from London, United Kingdom to Palm Spring, a city in California, United States.
“But on getting to Palm Spring, Olushola declined to board the ill-fated flight going to Boulder City in Nevada, insisting that he would not travel by Helicopter at night due to the weather conditions,” the report disclosed.

Access Holdings responded to the tragic incident in a statement, expressing grief over the loss of their CEO and family members. The company mentioned its collaboration with US authorities to gather updates, highlighting a lack of adequate information regarding the crash.
