Isaac Fayose, brother of a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the allocation of 508 hectares of land to a single family-owned company, while thousands of Abuja residents remain on the waiting list for land allocation.
Fayose expressed outrage during a public statement, comparing the allocated land size to the Wuse District in Abuja, which occupies 600 hectares and houses hundreds of thousands of residents.
“My Abuja people, do you know that the entire Wuse, including Wuse 2, Zone 4, and Wuse Market, sits on 600 hectares of land? That’s home to no fewer than 200,000 to 500,000 people,” Fayose said. “Now imagine one family a husband, wife, and children being granted 508 hectares of land. This is not acceptable!”
The land in question, reportedly located in Usmanyeo but not in Gwagwalada or Kuje, was handed to a company linked to the family. Fayose condemned the move, emphasizing that many Abuja residents have been on the waiting list for land allocations for over 15 years to 20 years, with some requesting as little as an 800-square-meter plot for personal use to build their dream home.
Fayose accused the Wike-led administration of sidelining the needs of ordinary Nigerians, pointing out that redistributing 508 hectares among the masses could provide land for over 100,000 people.
“This land isn’t even for mass housing, which doesn’t require a certificate of occupancy but only a letter of intent,” Fayose added. “If this land was properly shared, thousands of families could have had a reason to smile this Christmas. What is bad is bad. Our leaders need to develop a conscience.” he said.
