Wike Lacks Moral Ground to Speak Recklessly About Peter Obi, Jonathan, El-Rufai – Reuben Abati

Veteran journalist and broadcaster, Reuben Abati, has taken a swipe at Nyesom Wike, saying the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister has no moral standing to talk about character after attacking Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan and Nasir El-Rufai in recent interviews.

In a video clip shared on Tuesday by political commentator Imran Muhammad, Abati questioned why the media keeps giving Wike a platform to disparage political opponents when his own role in wrecking the PDP is well documented.

“Wike is not in a position to talk about character. Okay. He is not the one to talk about character. In fact, if he talks about character, he should question his own character,” Abati said.

The former presidential spokesman noted that Wike himself was responsible for damaging the PDP and had no authority to dictate the party’s future or discredit others. “In fact, it is Wike himself that destroyed the party,” he stated, stressing that the minister had no business advising either Obi or Jonathan.

Wike had recently claimed that Obi lacked the character to return to the PDP, warning that such a move would destroy the party. He also dismissed speculations about Jonathan making another run, saying the former president should remain a statesman.

Abati rejected those remarks, insisting Wike had lost credibility to issue such warnings. “He is not in a position to advise President Jonathan, just as he has made it clear that nobody can advise him,” he said.

He further blamed sections of the media for “sucking up” to Wike for monetary reasons. “The media gives him platform to disparage other political opponents. Yesterday, he was talking about Peter Obi, he was talking about President Jonathan, he was talking about Nassir El-Rufai. What gives him that moral high ground to talk recklessly and unintelligently? Because the media, what is the media looking for? The media, they are the ones who go to interview him, they are the ones who collect money to put him on the air,” he said.

Online reactions also aligned with Abati’s position, with many users arguing that Wike lacks the moral authority to drag opponents. @DebbySimon wrote, “Wike destroyed PDP 2022… Peter Obi and Atiku left PDP because of Wike. Wike has a terrible character.”

While Abati’s comments have sparked debate, they underscore a growing frustration with Wike’s frequent attacks on political rivals — a trend critics say is deepening divisions rather than addressing governance in the FCT.
