Drama as Wike Leads Emergency Party Meeting Says They Must Stop Vampires Killing PDP

Tension is rising within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as key figures of the party, led by the G5 governors, gathered in Abuja on Monday for an emergency meeting to address the ongoing leadership dispute rocking the party’s national secretariat.

The closed-door session, convened at the Life Camp residence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, brought together top party stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was the only G5 member absent from the gathering.

Presiding over the meeting, Wike condemned what he described as a coordinated move to destabilize the party from within, calling those behind the actions “vampires.”

“Action has to be taken to stop those he described as vampires from killing the party,” Wike said, delivering a fiery address that set the tone for the meeting.

The dispute centers on the position of the National Secretary, currently held by Sam Anyanwu, whose continued stay in office has sparked internal backlash. But Wike argued that the Supreme Court had already affirmed Anyanwu’s legitimacy, insisting that any attempt to unseat him before the party’s scheduled convention would be unlawful.

Wike further backed his position with a reference to the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, who he said did not resign as the state party chairman while contesting in the 2023 governorship race but only stepped down after clinching victory.

He emphasized that consistency in upholding the PDP constitution is crucial if the party hopes to avoid collapse. “The party must abide by its own constitution as anything short of that will be undermining the sacrifices of the party’s founding fathers,” he warned.

With emotions running high and the stakes even higher, the meeting eventually moved into a closed session. Party insiders say a formal communique will be issued at the end of deliberations, possibly charting a new direction for the opposition party amid its internal storm.
