JUST IN: Wike Moves to Prevent Prosecution of Alleged Loyalists Linked to Rivers State LG Violence

Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he has directed his lawyers to file a lawsuit against the panel of inquiry set up by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike made this statement during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday night.

According to Wike, “The governor claims this is the work of his political opponents. If that’s the case, why form a panel of inquiry? You know who they are; just get the police to arrest them.”

The lawsuit is in response to Governor Fubara’s formation of a judicial commission to investigate the violence that disrupted the recent local government elections in Rivers State.

reports state that the violence, which occurred on Monday, October 7, 2024, was allegedly orchestrated by supporters of Wike, who has been in conflict with Fubara.

The attacks led to the destruction of three local government secretariats.

In response, Fubara has vowed to take action against those responsible.

“We won’t stand by and watch political thugs wreak havoc in Rivers State.

“Those behind these attacks will account for their atrocities,” Fubara declared while swearing in four new commissioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

He added, “I said it before it happened. Those behind this are unhappy and have gone to extreme lengths to sow discord among our people.

“But we won’t allow this to go unpunished. We will work with security agencies to uncover those responsible and ensure they face justice.”

Meanwhile, a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, on Tuesday, announced the establishment of a judicial commission. The commission, formed under Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, is tasked with investigating the arson, killings, and destruction of property at local government council headquarters.
