The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, made a visit to Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Saturday, in the midst of an ongoing feud with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Notably, both politicians actively avoided each other during this visit, marking a stark departure from their previous public appearances together.
Wike attended the burial of Chief Ejor’s mother in Eleme, accompanied by prominent figures such as the Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Major Jack (Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly), and other Assembly members loyal to him.
The Executive Director Finance and Administration of the NDDC, Alabo Boma Iyaye, Elder Ferdinand Alabraba, Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Allwell Ihunda, and local government chairmen were also part of Wike’s delegation.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara participated in the 35th convocation ceremony of the Rivers State University (RSU) at the Convocation Arena in Nkpolu-Orworukwo, Port Harcourt.
During the event, Fubara expressed his commitment to strengthening the capacity of RSU, aiming to elevate it to one of the best universities in the country.
Acknowledging the financial challenges faced by educational institutions, he emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone for a firm, equitable, and progressive society.
He stated, “Bear in mind that funding is a problem, not just to this university system but also to governance. But as you all know, education is cornerstone of a firm, equitable and progressive society.
