The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has suspended Danlami Hayyo, the mandate secretary for education, following reports that government schools in Abuja were ordered to close on November 28 due to security concerns.
The confusion started when a memo, signed by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, directed all public senior secondary schools in the FCT to shut down, citing urgent security reasons and instructing principals to dismiss students safely.

However, the FCT administration clarified that no such decision was taken. Lere Olayinka, the senior special assistant on public communications and social media to the minister, described the reports as “false and misleading” and urged parents, students, and school authorities to disregard them.

Olayinka added that Nancy Sabanti Nathan, the acting head of service, had been directed to take disciplinary action against Alhassan in line with civil service rules.
The administration assured residents that the approved academic calendar remains unaffected and confirmed that security measures around schools and communities have been strengthened.
