In a recent judicial reshuffle in Nigeria, Justice Eberechi Suzette Wike, the wife of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has been elevated to the prestigious Court of Appeal.
This promotion follows the retirement of senior jurists and is part of a larger initiative to fill vacancies within the Court of Appeal.
Among 89 judges nominated for elevation, Justice Wike is one of the 22 selected to assume roles within the Court of Appeal.
The decision to promote Justice Wike and others was confirmed by Chief Justice of Nigeria Kayode Ariwoola. The approval was subsequently forwarded to Chief Bola Tinubu for official appointment.
The list of newly appointed justices as obtained by The Gazette titled ‘Appointment of 22 justices to the Court of Appeal,’ reveals a diverse representation from various states and federal high court judges across all six geopolitical zones.
Justices appointed from the North-Central region include Polycarp Tema Kwahar, Ruqayat Ayoola, Eneche Eleojo, Asmara Akanbi Yusuf, Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, and Abdu Dogo.
From the North-East, Justice Fadahu Umaru, a Borno state indigene, was appointed. In the North-West region, justices Ishaq Mohammed Sani, Zainab Bage Abubakar, and Abdulaziz M. Ankara were approved for elevation.
Representing the South-East are newly recommended judges Nnamdi Okwy Dimga Victoria, Tochukwu Nwoye, Henry Aja-Onu Njoku, Donatus Uwaezuoke Okorowo, and Ngozika N Okaisabor. Justices Ntong Festus Ntong, Nehizena Idemudia Afolabi, and Ms Nyesom-Wike were recommended for promotion from the South-South region.
In the South-West region, justices Lateef Babajide Lawal-Akapo, Abiodun Azeem Akinyemi, Oyewumi Oyejoju Oyebiola, and Bayo Ademola Taiwo were named for elevation.
