“We will continue to protect the interest of our people,” Gov Fubara Breaks Silence Amidst Political Tension in River State

Fubara

In response to the escalating political tension in River State, Governor Fubara has broken his silence, assuring the public that his administration remains steadfast in safeguarding the interests of the people.

Fubara made this revelation In a video clip posted on his verified X handle, pledging to run an inclusive government that upholds the principles of justice and fairness for all, regardless of class or position.

This statement follows a series of events contributing to heightened tension in the state. Notably, nine members of Governor Fubara’s cabinet resigned, and 27 members of the state assembly defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the week.

Following the defection of the lawmakers, the state government ordered the demolition of the Assembly Complex. The governor cited the need to rebuild a suitable structure following an “arson attack” that occurred on October 29, 2023.

The political landscape further reveals that the defecting lawmakers enjoy the backing of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister and immediate-past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

Reports suggest an ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike for control of the state’s political structure.
