Even with 36 Governors, Tinubu Will Still Lose in 2027 — Abu Amir Says as Gov Mbah Prepares to Join APC

Nigerian political commentator Abu Amir has said that even if all 36 governors across the country defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu will still lose the 2027 presidential election.

In a post shared on his official X account, Amir dismissed the idea that governors’ defections could determine the outcome of the next election, describing Tinubu as a “one-term president”.

He wrote, “Even if the entire 36 governors in the country join the APC today, Tinubu will still lose the election. Governors won’t determine the outcome of the 2027 elections. Come what may, Tinubu is a one-term president. Don’t let anyone use governors’ defection to whine you.”

His comments come amid reports that Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is set to lead a mass defection of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in the state to the ruling APC.

According to multiple reports, the defection will include all 24 members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, 260 councillors, and the entire PDP State Executive Committee.

However, Amir and other political observers argue that the growing number of defections does not guarantee electoral victory, noting that Nigerians are increasingly focused on performance, not political alliances.

Reacting to Amir’s post, some users on X agreed that governors’ influence over elections has waned, while others cautioned that incumbents still hold considerable power in shaping electoral outcomes.

One user, @JubrealSanuth, wrote, “Governors have more influence on how their state voting pattern would look like. It was one of the strategies that brought APC to power, and they are using the same model for 2027. It will work.”

Another, @marvinslive, countered that “the entire 36 state governors that would join APC will lose their seats, and Tinubu will also lose the election.”

For now, the political temperature ahead of 2027 continues to rise, with defections, predictions, and party realignments shaping Nigeria’s pre-election atmosphere.

But Abu Amir insists that no number of governors can save Tinubu from defeat, arguing that “the people, not politicians, will decide 2027.”
