The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile has called on the Nigerian federal government to remove all military checkpoints in the Southeast and Biafra territories.
Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, made this statement on Wednesday during a discussion on X.
He stated that the Nigerian government is responsible for the crisis in the Southeast due to its militarization of the region.
Ekpa emphasized that Biafrans desire lasting peace in their region and urged the Nigerian government to demilitarize the Southeast.
“We are against the Nigerian state for militarising Biafra. Those claiming we are violent should blame the Nigerian state.
‘They brought violence while we defend ourselves. We demand to withdraw the military and dismantle all checkpoints in Biafra territory”, he said.
On May 30, Nigerian security forces launched a manhunt for unidentified gunmen who killed five soldiers in Aba.
In response to the killings, Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced a N25 million bounty for information leading to the capture of the perpetrators.
However, those responsible for the killings have not yet been apprehended.
