Wolves Stun Chelsea with 2-1 Victory in Christmas Eve Thriller

Wolves

In a nail-biting Christmas Eve clash, Wolves handed Chelsea their fourth defeat in six matches, securing a dramatic 2-1 win in the Premier League—a festive football spectacle not witnessed since 1995.

Despite Mauricio Pochettino’s squad dominating possession at Molineux, Chelsea’s costly mistakes proved to be their downfall in a captivating encounter.

Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty propelled Wolves to a 2-0 lead, intensifying the pressure on the London side.

However, Christopher Nkunku, making his Premier League debut, ignited hopes for Chelsea with a late goal.

The defeat leaves Chelsea languishing in 10th place in the Premier League, grappling with inconsistency and enduring a dismal Christmas, as Wolves closely trail them in the standings on goal difference.

The match showcased early chances at both ends, with Nelson Samedo and Armando Broja missing opportunities for Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling squandered a golden chance to give Chelsea the lead, opting to shoot instead of passing in a one-on-one situation.

Wolves, too, had their moments, with Hwang Hee-chan missing a chance to break the deadlock before the half.

The second half saw Lemina scoring a crucial header in the 51st minute, while substitute Nkunku’s near miss added to the drama.

As stoppage time loomed, Doherty sealed the victory for Wolves with a calm finish from close range.

Although Nkunku managed to pull one back in the 96th minute for Chelsea, Wolves held on to secure all three points in a thrilling Christmas Eve clash.
