In an unfortunate incident that unfolded on Wednesday in the Ayedun Area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, a woman and her nine-day-old baby lost their lives when a water reservoir collapsed onto their building.
According to Punch, the victims, who were reportedly asleep in the room of the now-collapsed building, faced an untimely demise as the incident occurred.
The infant had been christened less than 24 hours before the tragedy struck.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, recounted the heart-wrenching incident, revealing that a water reservoir, filled to the brim, toppled beside the building, claiming the lives of the sleeping mother and child.

It was further disclosed that additional occupants of the building sustained injuries in the unfortunate event.
“The water reservoir fell on the building while the woman and her child were sleeping.
Before the neighbors reached the scene and managed to evacuate the victims, it was too late,” the eyewitness explained.
Following the incident, the deceased were swiftly evacuated and transported to an undisclosed hospital morgue in Akure.
The local police have acknowledged the occurrence, with Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, confirming that an investigation is underway.
“We have commenced an investigation into the matter,” stated the PPRO, expressing the official commitment to unraveling the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
