VIDEO: ‘I’m Tired of Begging to Eat, Release My Daughter to Feed Me; I’m Dying’— Woman Cries Out to Patience Jonathan Amid Unlawful Detention of 15 Domestic Workers Linked to Missing Jewellery

Fresh outrage is erupting across the country following the emotional plea of a 90-year-old woman whose daughter is among 15 domestic workers allegedly detained for nearly six years without trial on the orders of Nigeria’s former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

In a heart-wrenching video circulating online, the elderly woman, frail and visibly distressed, begged the former First Lady to release her daughter, saying she is dying of hunger and can no longer feed herself.

“I am tired of begging to eat. Please release my daughter so she can feed me. I’m dying,” the woman cried out, her voice trembling with emotion.

Her desperate appeal has reignited public scrutiny over the prolonged detention of the domestic workers, reportedly being held at the Okaka Correctional Centre in Bayelsa State under harsh and inhumane conditions.

According to SaharaReporters, Patience Jonathan was seen in a closed-door meeting with senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Yenagoa on Friday, a move believed to be linked to recent media investigations and growing public pressure over the controversial detentions.

A source familiar with the situation revealed that the former First Lady’s sudden visit followed SaharaReporters’ exposé detailing the squalid conditions in which the workers are allegedly being kept. The source also noted that the detainees have not been formally charged or granted access to fair legal representation.

“These workers have been locked away for almost six years—no trial, no justice, and no explanation. Their families are suffering, and now the entire country is watching,” the source stated under anonymity.

Human rights groups have condemned the situation, calling it a clear violation of constitutional rights and an abuse of power. Legal experts are also raising alarms over the role of the justice system in enabling what some are calling an “unlawful incarceration.”

So far, there has been no official statement from the office of the former First Lady or the NCS regarding the purpose of the Friday meeting or the current status of the detainees.

The incident continues to stir outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding immediate action and accountability.
