Akwa Ibom women on Saturday took to the streets of Uyo, the state capital, protesting the sexual harassment allegation leveled against their son and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Describing the allegations as “unfounded” and a ploy to discredit and tarnish Akpabio’s image, the women warned Natasha to stop disrespecting and embarrassing their son, who they reminded is the number three citizen of the country.
The protesters, who gathered at the popular Plaza roundabout, demanded an apology from Natasha, cautioning that failure to do so would incur their wrath.

Some carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Number 3 man deserves respect,” “Natasha, don’t embarrass us with your behaviour,” and “Respect for husbands is our tradition, Natasha.”
Addressing the gathering, Grace Mathias, a native of Essien Udim local government, emphasized that Akwa Ibom women would not tolerate any act of disrespect towards their son.
Her words: “We want Natasha to leave our son alone. Whenever she tries it again, the women will kneel and pray, and Heaven will rise against her. She should stop messing up our son, who is well trained in the ways of the Lord. Our son doesn’t disrespect women.”

She added: “Stop harassing our son and disrespecting him. We, the women of Akwa Ibom and Niger Delta, are saying that this should be the first and the last time you, Natasha, will be addressing our son in such a disrespectful manner. We are out here today to tell you, Natasha, that our son is so precious to us.”
“In this part of the country, we respect our men, we don’t disrespect them. So we want to tell you to stop harassing our son. Enough is enough. If we hear about this again, we will go down on our knees to pray against you, and God Almighty will release a cane that will flog you.”
“For plotting evil against our son, evil will return to you because you want to bring a bad name to our son. No peace for the wicked. Your plan will not work in the life of our son.”
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier alleged during an interview with Arise Television that she was being victimized in the Senate after refusing to yield to Akpabio’s advances.
