Yahaya Bello Still Wanted, EFCC Urges SSS, Police to Aid in Capture

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reiterated that former Governor Yahaya Bello is still wanted and emphasized that his arrest is the collective responsibility of all security agencies in Nigeria.

In April, the EFCC declared the ex-governor wanted for allegedly stealing N80 billion from Kogi’s treasury.

“We have declared him wanted, and he is still wanted,” Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the anti-graft agency, told Peoples Gazette on Thursday.

When questioned about the delay in arresting the fugitive former governor, Mr. Oyewale stated, “When a suspect is declared wanted in law enforcement, the responsibility of his arrest falls on all security agencies.”

The EFCC official noted that the agency is also pursuing other suspects.

“It is not Yahaya Bello alone. There are many suspects declared wanted by the EFCC, and we are on their trail. Until we apprehend them, they remain wanted,” said the EFCC spokesman.

Mr. Oyewale added, “So it is not about him alone. Visit our website, and you’ll see many suspects declared wanted. They remain in that status until they are arrested.”
