Yahaya Bello’s Nephew’s N3 Billion Fraud Trial Adjourned Until May

The trial of Ali Bello, nephew of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, and three others on an alleged N3 billion fraud charge has been adjourned by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court until May 27.

The adjournment came after the conclusion of evidence-in-chief by the second witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olomotane Egoro, an Access Bank staff.

During Thursday’s proceedings, Mr. Egoro presented bank statements of Keyless Nature Limited, Fasab Business Enterprise, Ari Consulting, and Integrated Limited. He testified to cash lodgements into the accounts from 14 local government areas of Kogi between 2017 and 2022, without specifying the purpose of the transactions.

Withdrawals from these accounts were also discussed during the testimony.

Following the conclusion of the witness’ testimony, Abubakar Aliu (SAN), counsel to Ali Bello, requested an adjournment to prepare for cross-examination. The request was granted by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who set the next hearing for May 27.

Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, represented the EFCC, while Nureini Jimoh (SAN) appeared for the second, third, and fourth defendants.

In the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/573/2022, Ali Bello and three others are facing trial on an alleged N3 billion fraud charge brought against them by the anti-graft agency.
