August 1: Yoruba Group Backs Hardship Protest

The Yoruba Revolutionary Movement has thrown its full support behind the national protests slated for August 1-10, 2024.

This was disclosed during a media briefing on Friday, National Coordinator Wale Balogun made the announcement, highlighting the group’s commitment to the cause.

Balogun dismissed claims that the protests are targeting Yoruba interests as “mischievous state-sponsored propaganda.”

He condemned the misuse of the Oro festivity as a political tool for intimidating dissenting voices and urged Yoruba people and Lagos residents to defy the illegal curfew imposed by the so-called ‘political Oro.’

The group called on security forces to treat protesters with respect, emphasizing that the demonstrations are not an attack on the Nigerian state but a plea to end hunger, starvation, and deprivation.
