Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sule Lamido, has cautioned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), against exerting undue control over the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In an interview with ThisDay newspaper published on Sunday, January 28, Lamido acknowledged Wike as an asset to the party but emphasised the supremacy of the party over individual interests.
Lamido stated, “Wike is an asset to the party, but he needs to be refined in his ways.
“Let me tell you, the party is supreme, and no individual is above the party.”
Highlighting the party’s financial history, Lamido remarked, “So, I don’t think Wike should pocket PDP because you can’t pocket your own mother. Before Wike, PDP was being financed; before Wike, PDP was buying wrapper to cover its nakedness.”
The former Governor of Jigawa State stressed the need for unity within the party, discouraging any individual, including influential figures like Wike, from considering themselves above the collective interests of the PDP.

“If you say that you bought clothes or wrappers for your mother, does it mean that before you were born, your mother was without clothes?” he questioned.
The ongoing tension within the PDP, particularly involving Wike, stems from his appointment as the FCT minister by Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Several PDP chieftains have clashed with Wike, urging him to leave the party since he serves in a government led by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
