Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has launched an attack on Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of ethnic bias, political ingratitude, and economic mismanagement.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Lawal declared he would never have joined Tinubu’s cabinet, insisting he would have resigned if appointed.
“I thank God that I didn’t make the mistake of being in this government ab initio,” Lawal said.
“If I were in this government, I probably would have been sacked a long time ago, killed, or resigned.”
The former SGF alleged that Tinubu’s government is dominated by Yoruba appointees, claiming that such gatherings often exclude others linguistically and politically. “I cannot go to a meeting in which 99 percent of the participants are Yoruba. The tendency is that they finish the meeting in their language, and I am just sitting there,” he said.

Lawal also recounted tensions during Tinubu’s presidential campaign, accusing some of the president’s loyalists of insulting northern supporters. “The problem with the Yoruba is that when you support them and they win, they behave as if they have subdued you. They will not count your support,” he said.
On the economy, Lawal slammed Tinubu’s handling of the removal of fuel subsidies, warning that inflation is worsening while ordinary Nigerians see no benefits. He alleged that, contrary to official claims, subsidies are still being paid in secret.
The ADC chieftain further reignited political controversy by declaring the 2023 presidential election was rigged in favor of the APC. When pressed on who he believed won, he responded without hesitation: “Peter Obi won that election.”
Lawal’s comments are the latest in a series of attacks against Tinubu’s government, reflecting deep divisions within the political class and growing dissatisfaction among former allies.
