On Sunday, the Osun chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), John Adeleke, urged Nigerians to pray to God for the healing of the land from hunger and other challenges.
“There will be challenges in a country where the people and their leaders are not righteous. God is expecting that every sinner should repent and turn to Him,” Mr Adeleke said while speaking with journalists in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun.
According to him, the nation is facing diverse challenges because Nigerians have turned away from God.
“Most of the things that are happening show that God is not happy with us. Somehow, we are experiencing famine as part of the last-day prophecies.
“The only solution is that everyone should turn to God and develop the fear of God,” he said.
The CAN chairman described the situation where leaders get to offices without any prior plan for the people as unfortunate.
“Once they get to their respective offices, they do not care about the welfare of the people,” he said.

He lamented political leaders who find it hard to fulfil their promises to the public because of the people they surround themselves with.
“Hence, they get to listen to bad advice, and sometimes, the power of dark forces is at work,” he said.
Mr Adeleke said leaders who depend only on their abilities and intelligence, sometimes relying on ungodly forces and not on God, create more problems than solutions.
He noted he desired and prayed that everybody, including leaders, retraced their steps to God.
