Angry Youths Kill Female Food Seller in Niger State Over Alleged Blasphemy Against Prophet Muhammad

A woman identified only as Ammaye, known locally as a food vendor, has been killed by a mob in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State following accusations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident reportedly occurred in Kasuwan Garba, a community within the council area. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the confrontation began in the nearby village of Igwama, where Ammaye, herself a Muslim, allegedly had a verbal exchange with a young man described as her nephew.

During the conversation, the young man is said to have jokingly proposed marriage to her, citing the intention to “fulfil the Sunnah.” In response, Ammaye reportedly made remarks that were perceived by some locals as blasphemous, sparking outrage.

The matter was subsequently brought before the District Head of Kasuwan Garba. During questioning at the palace, she allegedly repeated the comments, prompting the District Head to transfer her to security personnel for further investigation.

However, a group of irate youths demanded immediate punishment. Despite efforts by security operatives to shield her, the crowd reportedly overwhelmed them and stoned her to death.

Confirming the incident, Mariga Local Government Chairman Abbas Adamu stated that order has since been restored in the area.
