Protests Hit Delta as Youths Match Against Police Brutality

Protest

In a protest, hundreds of Nigerians marched through the streets of Ughelli, Delta State, condemning pervasive police brutality and extortion targeting the nation’s youth.

The impassioned protest, captured in a compelling video shared by @KomeNicee on X, calls on the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, and concerned citizens to address the issue and rein in on officers accused of being “armed robbers in uniform.”

@KomeNicee highlighted that the protest is a response to the escalating cases of police brutality in the state, with demonstrators demanding accountability and an immediate end to unchecked misconduct. The protesters assert that the police personnel must be held responsible for their actions.

In response to the mounting unrest, the Delta State Police Command issued a stern warning to Nigerian youths, urging them to refrain from participating in the demonstration.

DSP Edafe Bright, the Command’s spokesperson, provided context for the police’s caution, stating, “Regarding the ongoing protest in Ughelli, the Command wishes to inform members of the public that yesterday 13th February 2024, policemen from Ughelli Area Command intercepted an unregistered Benz GLK without a plate number in Ekuigbo community.
